Does Rutgers SAS require a minor? ›

All SAS students are required to complete a major and a minor.

The Core Curriculum is organized around a set of concrete learning objectives that encompass the skills most needed for active citizenship and most valued by employers, such as the ability to think critically and creatively, to reason quantitatively, and to communicate effectively.

The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) requires that all students complete a goal-based Core Curriculum, as well as an approved major and an approved minor for students who are not pursuing credit-intensive majors.

Two years of a high school world language or one year of college-level world language or demonstrated proficiency in the elementary level of a language other than English, sufficient to enroll in an intermediate level course, is required for admission to SAS.

After Fall or Spring semesters term GPA is a minimum of 2.000.

The total number of students enrolled in the SAS Honors Program is approximately 7% of the total SAS undergraduate population of 19,339. Our incoming class averages about 350 SAS and RBS students each year.

Now, the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences is a globally engaged teaching and research institution, with 750 full-time faculty and a vibrant and diverse student body of over 20,000 students.

SAS students with nontraditional status* normally schedule two or three courses per semester, but may register for up to 20.5 credits per semester. SAS nontraditional status students who have demanding nonacademic commitments are advised not to schedule more than two courses per semester during their first year.

Declaration is done by submitting a major/minor declaration form, available online at mymajor.sas.rutgers.edu. Some academic departments may have prerequisites and/or require approval by an adviser.

For every 100 applicants, 66 are admitted. This means the school is moderately selective. The school expects you to meet their requirements for GPA and SAT/ACT scores, but they're more flexible than other schools. If you exceed their requirements, you have an excellent chance of getting in.

Any major at the university that consists of fewer than 53 credit hours requires a minor with it. For example, students who complete a bachelor of arts in history need to complete only 36 credit hours for their major, and thus must also complete a minor of 24 credits.
