Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. The German manager is set to take a sabbatical from management after nine years at the club.
Jurgen Klopp has been exceptional for Liverpool since his arrival, helping the Reds win the Premier League title, the Champions League trophy, one FA Cup, two League Cups, a Community Shield, a UEFA Super Cup, and a Club World Cup during his time at the club.
The 56-year-old German tactician is undoubtedly one of the greatest managers in the club’s history and replacing him will be quite a challenge for Liverpool. Here at the Hard Tackle, we look at five of the most memorable matches from the Jurgen Klopp tenure.
Liverpool have impressed one and all with their fearless approach and heavy metal football under the German manager. When Klopp arrived at Liverpool in 2015, he urged the fans and the squad to transform from doubters to believers, and the following performances epitomise Klopp’s beliefs and never-say-die attitude.
Liverpool 3-1 Manchester City, November 2019
Liverpool produced one of their best performances against a Pep Guardiola side in recent history when they picked up a comprehensive 3-1 win at Anfield. Fabinho handed the home side an early lead with a stunning goal from the edge of the box, and Liverpool had the game wrapped up by the 50th minute thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane from the long range as well.
Manchester City where comfortably outplayed, and they simply failed to deal with the intensity and technicality of a motivated Liverpool outfit. Liverpool went on to win the league title at a canter that season, and the performance against the defending champions showed just why.
Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United, March 2023
A win over bitter rivals Manchester United is always special. But a 7-0 thumping at Anfield in front of the Kop has to go down as a legendary game in the club’s history.Liverpool put a feeble Manchester United outfit to the sword with a brace from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah each.
Club legend Roberto Firmino wrapped up the scoring with a late goal as Liverpool dished out one of the most humiliating defeats in Manchester United’s history.Apart from the massive scoreline, Liverpool completely outplayed Manchester United and exposed the gulf in class between the two teams.

Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool, June 2019
Liverpool came into the UEFA Champions League final against Tottenham on the back of a heartbreaking title loss on the final day of the season. While many teams would have crumbled after the way the title was lost on the final day of the season, Liverpool stepped up and delivered a thoroughly professional performance.
Tottenham were completely shut out, and Liverpool produced a magnificent defensive performance to grind out a 2-0 win thanks to golds from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi. The win will go down as one of the major highlights of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at the club as Liverpool clinched their sixth Champions League title.
Liverpool 4-3 Borussia Dortmund, April 2016
Having drawn the first leg of the UEFA Europa league quarter finals 1-1 in Germany, Liverpool came into the second leg with the tie finally poised.They were expected to grind out a win at Anfield. But the job turned into mission impossible when Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored within the first nine minutes.
Divock Origi handed the Reds a way back into the game with a goal early on in the second half. But a goal from Marco Reus a few minutes later seemed to have sealed Liverpool’s fate, and Jurgen Klopp’s side were staring at an elimination.
However, the Reds pulled off one of their most memorable late comebacks and secured their place in the semi-finals with goals from Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and an injury time winner from Dejan Lovren.
Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona, May 2019
The Jurgen Klopp era at Liverpool cannot be defined without mentioning the club’s second greatest comeback in UEFA Champions League history (the first being against AC Milan in Instanbul). Liverpool were comprehensively beaten 3-0 in the first leg. Heading into the second leg, they had lost Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to injuries.
Very few would have expected them to come away with anything from the game, let alone a win overturning the deficit.However, Liverpool produced a remarkable performance and signalled to the footballing world once again why Champions League nights at Anfield are stuff of legends.
Divock Origi handed Liverpool an early lead, and Liverpool piled on the pressure in the second half when super-sub Georginio Wijnaldum scored a brace in the space of two minutes.With the aggregate scores level at 3-3, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ingenuity from a corner allowed Liverpool to take the lead in the 80th minute.
A weakened Liverpool side coming up against players like Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Arturo Vidal, and Ivan Rakitic were completely torn apart and shaken beyond belief.
