If you have a hold, it is very important for you to contact the appropriate office ASAP to learn how you can clear the hold. In most cases, you will not be able to register until the hold(s) are resolved. Check the list of offices on this page for the proper contact information and location.
It is important to learn how your advisor makes appointments for advisem*nt. You may need to set up an appointment online, in person, or the department may offer walk-in advisem*nt hours. Because the process varies, it is important for you to seek out your advisor and set up an appointment prior to your registration priority date. You also want to have enough time after advisem*nt to work out your schedule and make course selections prior to your registration date. If your advisor’s office hours book up, you may be left with an appointment after your priority date, try hard to avoid this situation and make your appointment early!
If you have any registration holds on your account, you should still get advisem*nt and your registration PIN from your advisor. This way, you’re prepared to register once the holds are resolved and cleared from your account.
You can view progress towards your degree, all degree requirements, and even process “What-If” reports if you’re interested in changing your major. This tool helps prepare you for your advisem*nt appointment because it tells you exactly what courses you need to take to fulfill your degree requirements.
Discuss course options and prerequisites requirements. Be sure to write down your PIN, but it will change every semester! Use the Discussion Points to help guide you through your meeting.
Have I met the requirements for the competencies associated with my major?
Do I have to take any placement tests in order to fulfill my Math or Writing requirements?
Share your goals for this major with your faculty advisor, discuss how you can meet those goals.
Are there opportunities for me to do research alongside faculty in this major or department? Any internships or study abroad opportunities?
Am I meeting minimum GPA or grade requirements to be in good standing in this major?
When can I expect to complete my courses and be eligible for graduation?

FAQ's
Why do I need
an advisor?
Academic advisors are able to assist when you have questions about academic policies and procedures; or when you need help locating other helpful resources on campus.
Academic advisors assist with course selection to ensure that courses are selected in the proper order and that prerequisites are met so that students can stay on track to graduate. Advisors can assist with career goals.
Can I “pick up my PIN” from the Advisem*nt Center?
Sorry – we can’t simply hand out PIN’s prior to consultation. Although, you are responsible for your academic progress, it is the advisor’s obligation to help you stay on the right track. If you know what you’d like to take, bring those courses with you, if everything checks out, you could be out of your meeting in less than 15 minutes!
Why am I getting an error message
when I try to register?
Error message are common for a variety of reasons such as when courses are offered at the same day/time, when you do not meet the course prerequisite, when you have already taken a particular course, or if there are other restrictions placed on the course (major, department, class level, etc.) If you experience an error, try these steps:
Do courses overlap or start and end at the same time? Use the course scheduling grid to avoid this error message.
Do you meet the prerequisite for the course? You can check this by clicking on the course CRN and then on View Catalog Entry. Only the Department Chair can approve a prerequisite override.
Have you already taken this course? If you are repeating a course, you must complete the Course Repeat Request form and the Registrar’s Office will enter the override. Please check your WCSU for confirmation that the request has been processed.
Did you get a Class Restriction error? This means a course requires a certain class standing in order to register for the course. Freshman standing requires less than 30 completed credits; Sophom*ore standing requires 30 or more completed credits; Junior standing requires 60 or more completed credits; Senior standing requires 90 or more completed credits. In progress courses do not count. If you need an override to register, please contact the Department Chair.
What is
Add/Drop?
The Add/Drop period is always the first five days of the semester. After the first week you will need to withdraw from the class. Add/Drop will not appear on your transcript, this is why it is important for you to attend the first week of class to make sure you are happy with your courses and your schedule. After the first week, you’ll need to fill out a withdraw form and you’ll receive a “W” on your transcript for that course. There are other implications for withdrawing from a course you should discuss with your advisor before you formally withdraw.
What is
Degree Works?
Degree Works is an advising tool available to all matriculated students through Banner Web that will track your progress towards degree completion. You can also use the “What-If” option to see how your completed courses fulfill the requirements of a different major, or to see where future courses you plan to register for will fit in either your current major or a different major. You can also view a semester-by-semester 4-year plan that your advisor can adjust. Your advisor may also put advisem*nt notes or the PIN number in Degree Works for you to refer back to when planning for registration. For more information on Degree Works click here.
