Why visit Playa Costa Calma?

Is it worth it?

Absolutely! For a city beach, we found it large, well-maintained and peaceful. We were won over by the clear turquoise water, the fine sand and the facilities. Between the water sports, the restaurant and the children’s games, there’s plenty to keep you busy on this beach! Its location, close to numerous hotels, is ideal if you’re staying in Costa Colma. Playa de Costa Calma is an ideal destination for an enjoyable experience with family and friends. In fact, we’ve listed it among the most beautiful beaches in Costa Calma. This is a tourist beach, with lifeguard surveillance and well-equipped facilities. Here are the 3 main reasons why we think you should consider visiting:

  • Its size: almost 2km long, you’ll have no trouble finding a quiet spot to sit back and enjoy the magnificent ocean views.
  • Water sports: a wide range of water sports are available (windsurfing, jet-skiing, paddle-skiing…), so there’s something for everyone! This beach offers ideal conditions for board sports.
  • Facilities: this beach offers all the advantages of urban beaches. It is very well equipped (sanitary facilities, restaurant, children’s play area) and you can easily walk to the town center if you need to.

On the sand and in the water…practical advice

Best time to visit

The best time of year to go to Playa de Costa Calma depends on individual preferences. However, the peak tourist season on the Canary Islands is between December and April, but also during the 2 summer months, which means that the beach will be busier at these times. If you prefer to avoid the crowds, we recommend visiting outside these months. To find out when to go to Fuerteventura, read our dedicated article!

Playa Costa Calma (Fuerteventura): tips + photos (11)

As for the best time of day, it’s best to visit the beach early in the morning or late in the afternoon, to avoid the heat peak and enjoy more peace and quiet. We recommend you visit at low tide to enjoy the full length of the beach. Or go there in the evening to watch the sunset!

Beach type and size

The beach is mainly composed of fine white sand. There are many areas of wet sand with some black sand and small pebbles. The dry sandy areas, bordered by bushes, are very pleasant and more protected from the wind.

Playa Costa Calma (Fuerteventura): tips + photos (12)

The beach is long, stretching for around 2km. Ideal for a morning jog, isn’t it?

Conditions for swimming

Playa Costa Calma has a gentle slope but some waves. The water is very Claire and becomes deep after a few meters. There are plenty of board sports enthusiasts on this windy beach, but they respect the areas dedicated to water sports, separated from the swimming areas. With lifeguard surveillance, this beach is ideal for swimming. However, as on all beaches, it is important to remain vigilant and to respect the safety rules at sea.
