Not sure if I fully understand your question but you can certainly create animations in Maya using the FBX bones and save them in BVH format. Do you meancreate animationswithout Maya?

Err not sure .. right Quidam 3 looks as though it uses BVH files to rig characters with .. I was wondering if I could export a character rigged with the Maya FBX 3dx bones as a BVH and then back again.

I have Fenrics Pz2/BVH exporter plugin for Carrara
(which was in the PA sale earlier so there MIGHT be a catchup!)
it should save the rig as as a BVH
(I use to use BVH animations to rig stuff too, discovered borrowing Daz/Poser rigs better for that as I can apply different animations and poses to the figure as a character)

It has occured to me if I ever figure out Poser's set up room or how to use the basic figure set up tools in Daz studio, I could use possibly a BVH of it to rig a character that worked in iClone, Studio and Poser, the latter will only apply a BVH to a figure so you need to manually reproduce the bone set up anyway.
Studio should be able to import a stand alone BVH rig like Carrara.
Not sure though, never really looked into it as it does not bring Carrara rigging over with but I think it does import the skeleton.

Blender will!
And Messiah studio, it is the way used to rig Daz characters in Blender and Project Messiah using Autorig.

I cannot export a BVH of the Maya FBX usin Carrara pz2/BVH exporterbecause I get the message that no bone rig was found.

Dear Sw00000p,
My tiny brain cannot absorb most of what you typed Maya FBX bone systen to BVH (83)
I don't have MAX so a lot of what you do, I cannot.
There are probably other ways I can do it in Carrara, I am still learning, Daz and Poser use a different way to rig stuff that I do not understand yet, using shading domains for mesh controlled by bones, Genesis in DS4 is more like what I know so far in Carrara with weightpainting as is Poser 2012 which I don't have (just the old very cheap Poser7) but to do the stuff I can do in Carrara I need Daz studio 4 PRO! I only have advanced, waiting for Carrara compatibility for Genesis.
As for doing stuff in notepad???? I might as well be reading Heiroglyphics or how ever you spell that word, the Reallusion spellchecker will not let me get past Sw00000p on my android!
Dunno how to do spellcheck on android.
I am still a child CG wise (not far off second childhood!)

The Term "Maya FBX" has serverly confused you!

I wasnt confused till I read the Quidam 3 tutorial, after that I thought that the BVH system must imbed the bones some how.

So If they do not, just what am I doing with the BVH file in quidam ... I was hoping that Quidam was going to be a quick way to rig and skin a character ...Maybe not ..Maybe so ... God knows

In Carrara, importing a BVH file gives you the options of using an existing skeleton or creating a new skeleton.
The latter option is what is used to rig a character using those created bones.
Quidam prob does the same thing as does Messiah and a few other programs inc I think Blender.
If one could get a BVH file exported of any iClone figure or animal one could indeed rig a new figure in Carrara at least using it, however iClone does not export and some members of this forum think that is a good thing because as I have been told the superior iClone motions would be used by others outside of iClone at no profit to Reallusion, I actually think it would help sell their mocap system to a larger market but then what would I know!
I cannot create a BVH from the FBX in Carrara as the plugin I have is only designed for Poser rigged figures and animals.
Other programs might, I must check out Unreal again, hardly looked at it since I first got it.

I think you are right about motion export from Iclone, with the kinect plugin and a export option the game market would buy Iclone and the plugin... TBH I thought RL was heading in that direction.
