I own 1 DSLR, 1 digital p&s, 2 SLR( old mamiya and yashica), 2 film p&s (one with 110 film and the other 35 mm), 2 kodak brownies, one from the early 30s and the other from the late 60s... and of course camera phone!

Re: How many cameras do you own?

1x EOS 100 film SLR (for old times sake)
1x EOS 5D (main workhorse)

2x Powershot G6 (for underwater use in housing) Bought a second one as spare because it is discontinued.

4x L-zoom lenses, couple of non L.

Complete UW-kit (Ikelite) for G6.

M80 storage device.

All digital equipment uses same BP511 batteries and same CF-cards (everything completely interchangeable).

For special trips (last time South-Africa Safari, next time India Safari) I get an extra (back-up) body just to feel secure. Last time that was a 30D, next time will be a 40D. I sell that body immediately after the trip: the actual cost of buying and reselling is less than the cost of renting a backup body.

So the answer is: 4.5 camera's. The .5 one being a backup (now and then).

...Bonus points...

In reply to dddiver Mar 27, 2008

Need nothing else besides what I have, of course 5D will be replaced with successor as soon as prices become reasonable.

No need to replace G6: best digital P&S Canon ever made. May even get a used third one as extra spare(!).

BTW: I previously owned and used extensive Pentax film SLR-sets and even more extenisive Bronica (ETRS(i)) Medium Format film sets.

I'm trying this on FM, too.
Be specific, within reason, and no cheating: cameras owned by
significant others, children, etc. don't count!
For extra bonus points: how many cameras do you THINK you ought to
own/others ought to own?

Yeah, so? What are you trying to say? That I have to ask
PERMISSION??? Me? Asking permission?

Your wife will tell you when you are allowed to ask permission.

13+

In reply to Helmut_S Mar 27, 2008

not counting several antique cameras (they are the +)

brownie box, rolicord twin lens, 2 speedgraphic large format, 2 model B Topcons, 2 super D Topcons, G3, S400, 10D (my wife uses it now, so maybe it shouldn't count), 20D, 5D.

Also not counted a G3 "loaned" to one child, and a topcon super D and about 15 pounds of lenses "loaned" to the other. They were loaned with no expectation of getting them back.

Only the digitals are in use now, but, except for those on "loan", I still own all the cameras I have ever gotten (purchased or inherited). With the exception of two of the antique cameras, I have used them all at one time or another.

I have considered a 40D to replace the 20D (and have the 20D filter removed for astronomy), and a second 5D (so I don't have to switch lenses as often) -- but I'm not sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next version of the 5D or whatever.

Given how many I have, I am certainly not going to say others should limit their camera count.

To my wife:

A few cameras are good.
A few more cameras is better,
And too many is just about right.

I don't even know.
Sold off my rare minoxes to pay for the 5D and eos lenses.
Sony Cybershot (its really my wife's)
Canon Elan 7 EOS film

Have two canon f-1 film bodies, two AE-1 bodies, one EF body, two t-90 bodies, lots of ef lenses.
Nikon Nikkormat.
three Bronica Etr bodies with 5 lenses and backs
Bolex and Pathe 16mm motion picture cameras
2x3 Linhof technica kit
2x3 Speed Graphic
3x4 Graflex super D

and a bunch of interesting (50-60) antiques sitting on the shelves for curiosity.

and another 50 or so non miscellaneous cameras (retina reflexes, minolta reflexes, canon pellix, olympus xa, polaroid 180, polaroid sx-70, kodak recomar folder, a box of curious miniature cameras, etc etc.

Anybody want a pair of beseler enlargers and some good Componon and Nikon lenses?

50 years of photogrpahy, lots of deritus.

1DMKIII, 5D, 30D and 350D, all functioning well no problems. I modified the 30D removed the AAfilter and fitted a Baader filter for astro photography. Kids use the 350D. 5D now only used for travel and Wide angle. Mainly use the 1DMKIII now. Nikon CP5700 - hardly used zoom drive broken gear very weak flimsy mechanism looks well made on the outside though paid a fortune when it first came out my only regret camera.

The funny thing is that if there weren't a lot of worthless and/or repeat posts then there'd be very little to talk about.
