StarID Self Service

Your StarID will contain 2 letters, 4 numbers, and 2 more letters (e.g. “ab1234cd” or “qm8762bg”).

E-mail is an official form of communication to students, faculty, and staff at St. Cloud State, so please check email frequently to be sure you don't miss important announcements.

Students, faculty and staff can access their St. Cloud State email once they activate their Star ID.

E-mail Address & Quota

Your e-mail address will be automatically generated for you and will end in:

• Students: @go.stcloudstate.edu(upon admission to St. Cloud State)
• Employees: @stcloudstate.edu

All Students, faculty and staff have 50GB of space within Office 365.

Attachments

Maximum message size is 150MB which includes the message and any attachments. There is no individual attachment size restriction.However, some e-mail providers might not accept attachments depending on their size.

Also, be aware that some file types are blocked by St. Cloud State for security reasons.

Students, faculty and staff receive personal file and web space when they activate their StarID.

File space allows you to store files on St. Cloud State's network and use your StarID to login and access them from both on and off campus.

Web space gives you the ability to publish a personal web site on St. Cloud State's networkand is located in a folder directly under your file space called "webspace". Please note, emeriti accounts do not include this web site service.

Your personal web site URL will be in one of two formats, dependent upon when your account was created:

• Before October 2019:
  http://web.stcloudstate.edu/<emailprefix>
• After October 2019:
  http://web.stcloudstate.edu/<starID>

Graduation &Non-enrollment Account Expiration

A StarID remains active at St. Cloud State as long as a student is continuously enrolled in courses at St. Cloud State. For students who have graduated from St. Cloud State or are no longer enrolled in courses, the following will take place:

• Account Deactivation - Accounts will be deactivated after 12 months for undergraduate students andgraduate students.
• Account Removal/Deletion - Deactivated accounts at St. Cloud State, and the files and e-mail associated with them, will be deleted from the St. Cloud State system 2 years after the last enrollment term. St. Cloud State University is not responsible for any deleted information due to the removal of a StarID access, files or e-mail. Once an account is deleted, St. Cloud State cannot retrieve files or e-mail.

Active duty military leave

When the St. Cloud State Office of Records and Registration (AS 118) receives notice from a student that he/she is called to active duty, the student’s account will be flagged, indicating that he/she is on active duty for a specified amount of time. The account will remain active for that period of time.

Undergraduate students

Students requesting an extension of their technology and/or online library resources past the standard expiration timeframewill need to have their instructor or faculty advisor fill out the Request for Extension Form. Login to Office365 using your starID@minnstate.edu login ID is required.Requests must be for clearly academic purposes.

If the request is received and approved between:

• August 1st and December 1st, theaccount will be active for fall semester.
• December 2nd and July 31st, the account will be active for spring and summer semesters.

Graduate students

Students who need an extension of technology services and/or online library resources to complete a thesis, paper or culminating project must enroll in a graduate course titled Registration Continuation, 691 for masters studentsand 891 for doctoral students.For more details or if you have questions, please contact the Graduate Studies office.

St. Cloud Stateprovides a university list, SCSU-Discuss,available to St. Cloud State faculty, staff and administrators.

Emails that are sent to this list address,is sent to all who subscribe to that list.

SCSU-Discuss

This list supports communication between faculty, staff and administrators by disseminating messages that are created in the spirit of civil discourse. Items may include, but are not limited to, academic topics, opinion pieces, university policy, issues, surveys and postings intended to inspire discussion.

Bulletin Board

The Faculty/Staff bulletin board provides an interactive space where they can post and view announcements, information and events in categories such as:

• For Sale items
• For Free items
• Wanted items
• Campus Announcements
• Community Announcements
• Lost Items
• Campus Events
• Community Events

In addition to being able to log in to view and post items, you will also have the option to subscribe to receive “Alerts” in your e-mail Inbox about the items in which you are interested.

Departments, centers, programs and student organizations can request a supplemental account for access to file/web space, D2L Brightspace, wireless network, library proxy, MNPALS and more.

Shared mailboxes are now used for email associated with supplemental accounts. (See Shared mailboxes below.)

Student organizationaccounts need to be requested and managed by their faculty/staff advisor. Faculty/staff are responsible for activity that occurs under the supplemental accounts assigned to them.

A shared mailbox is a mailbox that single or multiple users can use to read and send emails messages for a supplemental account.

Shared mailboxes can also be used to provide a common calendar, allowing multiple users to schedule and view items.

Shared mailboxes do not have a password associated with them and access is granted by the group owner through the Group Management Tool.

Once access has been given, allow up to 24 hours for the shared mailbox will show up in Outlook as another folder.
